Goldie Lookin Chain , Barrowlands, Glasgow

Date: 12/02/05
Rating:

Many people see Goldie Lookin' Chain as a one trick pony. Doing this could be a real shame; the Newport rappers are a great live act. Those who relocate to the back immediately after 'Guns Don't Kill People, Rappers Do' should be ashamed.

Anyone who thought the success of GLC had sent them upmarket are proved wrong as soon as they embark on stage. There is a huge screen lit up with the image of Mr T., with a spliff drawn crudely on his mouth, and the amps light up in glorious gold. The epitome of GLC's tacky image.

Lyrically, the 'Chain have surprisingly observant wit, albeit crude, hip-hop styled, and undeniably Welsh. Highlights of the set include 'Half Man, Half Machine', 'Roller Disco' and the tastefully titled 'Your Mother's Got A Penis'. They really know how to work the crowd to boot.
