Goldie Lookin' Chain at The Carling Academy, Bristol 19/10/04
"It would be easy to view GLC as puerile, immature and filt’y mouthed; easy, yes, and accurate too, but not the whole story" says Adam Cumiskey.
Goldie Lookin' Chain have risen to fame over past months and in the process have caused quite a stir with both critics and fans of the Welsh rappers. The Bristol Academy seemed the ideal place to find out if GLC really are, as they themselves claim, "safeasfuck"!
The atmosphere was light and everybody appeared to be having a good time. Some hardcore fans even decided to dress as part of the GLC crew and sported the trademark Matalan tracksuits and blingin' headgear!
Following two mediocre and somewhat politically minded support acts, GLC took, in fact, swarmed the stage! Their presence can be described as nothing but hysterically shambolic and, combined with a well rehearsed and amusing banter between songs; GLC did not fail to entertain.
GLC performed for just over an hour and a quarter, shrewdly inserting the new single ‘Your mother has a penis’ to retain the momentum. Other strong moments were the performances of ‘21 Ounces’, a superbly funny parody of So Solid's ‘21 Seconds’. There were dull moments but being an unusual live act, they are definitely worth checking .
